You want to know what the greatest love story of all time is? A parent loving me so much that he sacrificed his love for me. A parent who, no matter what I do, his love is still so sweet, genuine, gentle, tender and unconditional.
A parent who knows my past but has never held it against me. When I’ve disappointed him, he had and has every right to say vile things to me, to judge me, to disown me, but his love is too perfect for that.
That when I curse him, when I’m angry with him, when I go against what he’s told me. When I forget to say thank you or when I turn to others before turning to him, he still looks at me and sees someone worth dying for. He still looks at me as if I’m precious to him.
That’s the love Jesus Christ offered me. It’s a concept I could never grasp. It’s something I could never understand with my flesh. God gave us the greatest example of love and everyday that we get to live is his reminder of that to us.
The closet example of this love is that of a mother. Now that I’m a mom, it’s a concept that I want to live by. I want to love my daughter the way Christ loves me. I want to be a parent the way Jesus has been a parent to me.
If you want to be that mother to your child, or this wife to your husband, or just to express the love of Christ to others, the Bible give us an example of how. The proverbs 31 woman. She is loving, dignified, virtuous, strong and selfless. She speaks with wisdom, is honest, faithful, humbled and self-controlled. She is teachable, encouraging, meek and kind.
I am still trying to emulate this woman and it will probably take years until I am her. But I want the Lord to be pleased with me and I want my children to know God’s love because I’ve set the example of it.
For the woman reading this, if you’ve messed up. If you’ve disappointed God. It’s not too late to make things right. It’s not to late to be the Proverbs 31 Woman. Let this scripture refresh your mind and move you to seek the Lord more deeply than ever so that we can be a blessing and expression of God’s unconditional love and grace. That we may reflect his love to not only our children but to everyone around us.
